A Structured Approach to Environmental Responsibility
LMS manages environmental performance through a structured Environmental Management System approach, with environmental aspects and impacts reviewed regularly as part of its commitment to ISO 14001:2015 certification. Its Environmental Aspects and Effects Register identify the main influences on the company’s environmental management system, helping LMS focus its environmental efforts in the most effective and efficient way.
The register considers areas including emissions to air, releases to water, waste management, contamination of land, use of raw materials, natural resources and energy, as well as local environmental and community issues.
This provides a practical framework for sustainability: identifying where environmental impacts may occur, rating their significance, applying control measures and ensuring responsibility is assigned across the business.
Managing Energy Use and Emissions
One of the most significant environmental aspects identified by LMS is electricity use, which covers heating, lighting, plant equipment and operational energy demand. This was rated as a significant aspect, with controls including energy usage monitoring through electricity bills, energy records and the use of a green energy supplier at LMS House.
By monitoring electricity consumption and setting targets once baseline figures are available, LMS is taking a measured approach to understanding and managing its energy impact.
This aligns with the wider pewag Group ambition to achieve CO₂-neutral production by 2030, focusing on Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through energy efficiency, process improvements, renewable energy and e-mobility.
Across the wider group, pewag avoided 2,655 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2025 thanks to renewable energy – equivalent to the carbon capture capacity of approximately 79,650 newly planted trees.
Responsible Waste and Resource Management
Waste management is another important area within LMS’s environmental approach. The company identifies general waste, cable ends, copper, plastic, packaging, paper and electrical equipment disposal as areas requiring control and monitoring.
Control measures include signed waste transfer notes, retained waste documentation, segregation, waste registers, approved waste contractors and recycling or reuse where possible.
For paper and card, LMS records that paper/card waste is disposed of through 100% recycling, while unnecessary printing is minimised and electronic saving is encouraged.
LMS also identifies pallet use as an environmental aspect, with controls focused on reuse, repair and recycling of wood and foam products where possible.
These practical measures support the circular economy principles seen across the wider pewag Group, where products and processes are increasingly focused on longevity, repairability, reusability and recycling. In 2025, the wider group recycled 83% of total waste and continued to promote lifecycle extension through maintenance, repair and recycling initiatives.
Environmental Risk Management on Site and in the Supply Chain
LMS’s Environmental Aspects and Effects Register also highlights the importance of preventing pollution and managing environmental risks across both its own activities and those of its supply chain.
Potential environmental emergencies, spillages, chemical storage, fuel transfers and facility storage are all considered within the register, with controls including spill kits, environmental awareness training, COSHH training, risk assessments, SDS libraries, inspections and approved disposal routes.
The register also considers suppliers, alliance partners and subcontractors, recognising that environmental performance can be influenced by purchasing decisions and external partner activity.
This reflects an important point: sustainability is not limited to what happens inside one building. It extends across purchasing, subcontractor selection, project delivery, client worksites and waste handling.
Smarter Lifting Through Technology
LMS’s contribution to sustainability also comes through the technology it provides to customers.
Accurate load monitoring helps lifting teams make better-informed decisions, especially in complex, high-value or safety-critical environments.
